They came "against all odds"

Washington,DC--Despite a driving rain,two hundred and fifty people came to the Embassy of Ethiopian to engage in a lively and candid dialogue with Deputy Prime-Minister His Excellency Addisu Legesse and President of the Amhara National Regional State His Excellency Ayalew Gobeze. The Deputy Prime Minister began by thanking the audience for coming "against all odds" --referring to the vocal efforts of others the freedom to speak.

In his remarks,Ato Addisu referred to the Ethiopian Diaspora in the united States as " intellectual capital for the development of Ethiopia." The Deputy-Prime Minister spoke freely of the challenges Ethiopia faced in pursuing development and furthering the democracy process and acknowledged the invaluable contribution those in the Diaspora can make. He concluded his remarks by saying that he anticipated a lively and vigorous discussion on a broad rang of issues.
His Excellency Ayalew Gobeze presented a three-year sectoral report on the highlights of the Amhara National Region,stressing the progress made in health,education and agriculture.

Harris has announced a turnkey radio transmission sale to Radio Ethiopia, a segment of the Ethiopian Radio and Television Agency (ERTA).

Harris will deliver high-power AM transmitters to stations in Harar (3DX-D100, 100 kW) and Mekele (DX-D200, 200 kW) this fall through Technology Systems and Solutions, a Harris dealer representative based in Ethiopia.

The transmitters, which are ready for DRM and HD Radio conversion, will deliver a higher quality signal to a large part of the country — highly important for a population that relies on radio for news and information in addition to entertainment. The new transmission system will dramatically improve the quality of AM radio transmissions throughout the country by the end of 2006.

ADDIS ABABA (AFP)08-19-2006, US soldiers joined emergency efforts to assist tens of thousands of Ethiopians hit by devastating flash floods that have killed hundreds across the nation this month.

A team of 35 so-called "Seabees" brought with them 52 large tents to house many of the displaced, and equipment to construct sanitation facilities amid growing fears of the spread of water-borne disease among the survivors. ...
